Benjamin I. Westerman
Ben joined Dowling Law in 2022. He works with clients on various labor and employment matters, including EEO/discrimination claims, wage/hour law, accommodations, and compliance requirements. He has quickly become our “go-to” resource for legal analysis of employment law developments.
Though he may not have realized it at the time, Ben’s diligence and passion for labor and employment law started while working at a summer camp in New Hampshire. It was there that Ben learned how to balance employee needs with workplace demands. He additionally learned the importance of clear communication, customer-minded service, and preparedness. One of Ben’s favorite parts about being a labor and employment law attorney is the continuing opportunity to hone and develop his legal skills. He firmly believes that the practice of law requires us to find ways to better ourselves, even if we think we are perfect.
Ben is a transplant to the area, originally hailing from Massachusetts. He quickly became attached to the Albany area while earning his undergraduate degree at UAlbany. His fondness for Albany stems mainly from the volunteer fire department he joined in 2015. He now serves as the department’s training officer. A graduate of Albany Law School, he took classes related to client counseling and advocacy, conducting legal research, and administrative law matters. While Ben assures us he went to law school to help others realize their dreams, his family will say it would be a waste of his zealous debate skills to do anything else.
In his free time, Ben enjoys watching and playing sports, playing with dogs, and spending time with friends and family. He never misses an opportunity to talk about his two dogs, Timon and Stella, and his cat, Moe. He appreciates trips to farmers’ markets, apple orchards, and other community events throughout the year.
